The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recognizes 14 Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC) organizations to administer amateur radio license exams. One of the largest known organizations is the ARRL VEC. The Phoenix Amateur Radio Team (PART) is a Volunteer Examiner (VE) team under the Laurel VEC. Both VEC organizations are members of the National Conference of Volunteer Examiner Coordinators (NCVEC). The NCVEC assists the VECs as well as maintains the question pools used for testing.
Why is the Phoenix Amateur Radio Team (PART) a VE team for the Laurel VEC? There are several reasons which all relate to the fact that the Laurel VEC collects and submits data electronically. This allows for test administration with no fee charged. Test session results are submitted back to the Laurel VEC and processed within a day or two. Eliminated is the need for us to collect a $15 test fee and have you wait 10 days for results.
